why did barzini want to kill michael
Moe Greene is shot through the eye in a massage parlor. The Godfather Wiki is a FANDOM Movies Community. Union officials, who owed allegiance to the Five Families, were warned to stay neutral, and when the Corleone bookmakers and loan sharks were still barred from the docks, Sonny Corleone sent Clemenza and his regime to wreak havoc upon the longshore. One could still argue why he wasn't killed right away in the house after the confession, though. Corleone bookmakers all over the city were threatened to persuade them to change their allegiance. It was in fact Luca Brasi that did it but certain sections of this scene, and also the following scene where Tom, Vito, and Sonny are meeting in the living room, that indicate this were cut from the final edit of the film. Edit, The story spans about 10 years, between 1945 and 1955. Later, in Las Vegas, Michael also has a dinner-table-business scene, similar to his father's gathering with the 5 Dons. So he ventured out rarely, like he would to carry on his affair with Lucy Mancini. In the books, Sonny is described as being a kind and loving man to both his wife and children. His death was attributed to the Barzini family, since Staten Island was their territory, which explained the death of Don Barzini at the same time. Paulie tells him that his contact for obtaining them has assured him they've been "exterminated" or checked thoroughly for vermin like bedbugs. Soon after, he arranges for his associate, drug lord Virgil "The Turk" Sollozzo, to meet Don Vito Corleone with an offer to join the Barzini and Tattaglia families in the narcotics trade; Sollozzo in particular is hoping to gain access to Vito's political connections. Later, in the car, Tom Hagen asks the Don about the way forward, having taken the meeting entirely at face value. Are any real, historical figures depicted (i.e. Couldn't they have done it sooner, say when Sonny was sneaking into the city to carry on his affair with Lucy Mancini? His bottom line after failing to kill Michael is money, but even then he would probably someday have betrayed him if Michael had come through (and Batista hadn't been overthrown). During the meeting, it is Barzini who repeatedly reprimands Vito for refusing to share his police and political protection to the drug operation. However, Michael is now one of those "young people" who have no respect for anything. Barzini, Greene, Tattaglia, Stracci and Cuneo were killed in rapid succession by Corleone button men while Michael stood at the baptism ceremony for his nephew, Carlo's son, betraying Vito's peace submit vow. Massive raids began all over the city and all unlawful business activities came to a standstill. Clemenza was the one who actually killed Carlo, so Michael can rationalize in his mind that he's not 'really' lying to Kay. Carlo's position as son-in-law was the only thing that allowed him to live as long as he did. Michael and Vito might have placed some of the blame for Sonny's assassination on Tom. Apollonia's death is a brutal reminder of the chaos that Michael left in his wake back in New York. He was one of the few Dons who had never been arrested and whose true activities had never even been suspected. After the Barzinis began chipping away at their territories, Tessio and Clemenza asked for vengeance, but Michael ordered them to wait. Killing him in the car avoids a mess inside the house. The Five Families War was a major conflict between New York's Five Families. Edit, While Michael is attending the baptism of his godchild, Carlo and Connie's new son, each of the Dons of the other leading Families in New York plus Moe Greene (Alex Rocco) in Las Vegas are murdered by Corleone assassins. Not only would he have a few men in his car with him, but there would probably be at least one other car following them.
